Karl Benz from Germany created the first true automobile in 1885/1886. In the “olden days”, everyone rode horses and only the rich drove cars. Nowadays, everyone drives cars and only the rich ride horses; but I never estimated just how much time we spend driving….. I doubt the horses of today would manage if they were tasked with transporting us once again!
Did you know that the total number of working days stuck in traffic amounts to 10 days on average per year for South Africans? That’s 240 hours! That means a lot of time on the road, and with evidence like “road rage” there is no doubt that driving is not for everyone but it is something we just cannot avoid in this day and age. Cruising down the street with your favourite tunes blasting from the speakers can be a great joy, but driving can also be kind of a drag. According to a study done by the Harvard Health Watch, an average person spends 101 minutes per day driving. That means in a lifetime, an average Joe spends a whopping 37,935 hours driving a car (assuming that s/he starts driving at 18 and drives until 78 years old). In that time, average Joe will drive around 1,284,256 kilometres, which is approximately the distance it takes to drive to the moon more than three times! These findings mean only one thing:
“Life is too short to drive boring cars”
Life is short and we spend A LOT of time driving…. so it is best to drive something suitable, something exciting and something that makes driving pleasurable!
