Do you enjoy going to the hair salon? Or are you one of those girls that avoids it? No matter which you are, I would like to share my experience with you and the 5 signs that you have chosen the right Hair Salon and why you should go regularly.

I have never really been fond of doing “girly things” and have many awful memories from my childhood & teenage years of choking back tears not wanting to be rude by showing how upset I was over the awful results of my hair, knowing how much had just been paid for the cut or colour.

In fact, I had not been to the hairdresser in over 2 years! I decided it was time to do something drastic about my awful DIY box colour and uneven, dry, split ends… But which stylist could I trust?

With more than 500 Hair Salons in Durban and the Upper Highway Area, it’s no easy task choosing a studio or specific stylist. So what better way to find the perfect person than the ever trusty “Word of mouth”.  So the search began and after chatting with a few hair fanatic friends, I discovered that many women have stuck to their mainstay hair salons for many years whilst very few ladies test the waters from time to time with different stylists and venturing to new salons.

After numerous recommendations “Get Hair By Claire”, “If you can get a spot go see Claire Swart” … so I finally booked for a cut, colour & blow dry with Hair Stylist Claire Swart at Bespoke Hair Salon in Durban.  (Claire Swart is local to the Upper Highway area and resides in Crestholme, she is available for events and private bookings)

Excitement builds and SALON DAY finally arrives… From the moment I got there, I realized this was not your run of the mill hair Salons. I had made the right choice. I was treated like a long lost friend and comfortably seated in the styling chair before being served tea on a silver tray; I immediately relaxed into the upbeat vibe of this special salon that clearly takes customer satisfaction very seriously.

 

After quickly assessing my hair Claire began to tell me how to better keep my hair with special tricks and methods of washing and drying for my specific hair type. Who knew there was so much to know about hair? After deciding on the cut and colour I was treated to a life-changing head massage & hair wash.

Head Massage stimulates and improves lymphatic drainage and blood flow to the neck thus helping to remove waste products from the body. So even if you are not due for a cut or colour and need some time to destress, book for a hair wash & head massage! Be sure to finish it off with a blow dry for that extra therapeutic effect…..

 

Sitting back in the styling chair with this bubbling character expertly working the comb through my hair, I was eager to know more about this expert stylist and Claire was only happy to share. Her passion for hair is obvious but this rather modest stylist has achieved a lot more than you realize. Local to the Upper Highway Area and having worked across Durban, Claire has been doing hair for more than 27 years and has achieved her masters in colour. In addition to being the Loreal Colour Trophy Finalist, another of Claire’s noteworthy achievements is the Durban July. Working with Tiffany from ICE MODELS, Claire has been adding her flair to the Durban July & DUT Events since 2003 working on the Models for the various fashion shows.

I felt honoured to be in the hands of such an esteemed professional and really enjoyed the light-hearted banter and high energy of this special person. I felt uplifted even BEFORE I had seen the incredible result of her handy work! I had gone from drab to fab and I immediately fell in love with my new look.

 

After taking a few shots of my new look Claire asked if I still had time as she wanted to introduce me to Upasna Govender... The reason soon became obvious… I had neglected my eye-brows for long enough and Upasna is the Beauty Therapist at Bespoke!
